EXHIBITIONS

Trade convention setups can be occasions in themselves occupying entire floors of the largest exhibition spaces in Paris, or they can form smaller integral parts of a more varied day of activities, such as the sponsor desks installed around the networking areas of a business summit. Such event layouts really can offer the ideal opportunities for event reportage: the engagement and enthusiasm created through an innovative product demonstration; the presentation and promotion of a new device or technology; clear and exclusive branding opportunities for each attending enterprise; and the inevitable business networking taking place around each merchandise stand. My job as an exhibition photographer is to remain constantly attentive to these rich visual opportunities and to ensure I capture the very best of them.

PRODUCTS

Product reportage can capture any stage of a commodity’s journey, from its design, manufacture, assembly, installation, display, demonstration, advertisement, sale and, of course, its intended use. Whether individual items shot in studio or various items captured on location in the context of a larger commercial event, the items themselves are firmly the focus of each photograph, with the given setting - whether an exhibition space, a laboratory, or a factory - merely providing a background suggestive of a generic related environment. What makes product photography the most diverse creative service is the fact that it can have a product photographer creating promotional imagery of any visual element (including merchandise, raw materials, tools, decoration, screens, software, digital applications and food and catering arrangements) and objects of any size (from large exhibition stands to macro images of surface textures).

LOCATIONS

VENUES & EVENT SPACES

Whether photographing the immense exhibition spaces of an international trade show or the small office meeting rooms of a central Paris business premises, my task in the role of architectural photographer and my approach to photography and post-production are the same: to render the space in question as well-lit, as spacious and as immaculate as possible whilst highlighting its unique characteristics and features. What makes architectural photography so unique is the variety of location types that it can encompass which include venues, event spaces, office, bureaus, and any number of establishments relating to a commercial or retail nature. Interior photography can be an isolated request in and of itself or form part of a larger task such as a business shoot or reportage.

SHOOTS

Commercial shoots are fully-directed and semi-directed photography sessions at business establishments with the aim of producing staged or partially staged advertising imagery to promote a product of service. In close collaboration with the hiring enterprise, I recommend shoot durations and schedules that get the best out of the client's availability and resources to meet any and all preferences a company may have for how their product or service is presented.

REPORTAGE

Commercial reportage is essentially fly-on-the-wall documentary of a specific event or of the daily activities of a company providing, producing or promoting any type of product or service. Unstaged and taken by an often unobserved photographer, these are natural looking images that are effective in highlighting the more personable side of a business.
